Stephen Curry Delivered When The Lights Were Brightest
Stephen Curry’s early performances raised some doubts about his place in the starting lineup. In his first four games, he averaged 7.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 0.5 steals, with a shooting accuracy of just 35% from the field and 25% from three-point range.
However, Curry significantly improved in his last two games, averaging 30.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals. His shooting percentages soared to 62.5% from the field and 65.3% from three-point range.
Curry proved invaluable for Team USA when it counted most. After their semi-final victory over Serbia, Kevin Durant praised Curry’s 36-point game as ‘godlike’. Curry demonstrated the impact Team USA had been missing with his previous absences from the Olympics.
Although it’s unlikely he’ll compete in another Olympic tournament, Curry can take pride in this gold medal as a testament to his status as one of basketball’s all-time greats, bolstered by his impressive achievements.
