Peter Crouch delivers Jon Walters verdict as he brings ‘respect’ to Stoke City relegation fight

Latest Stoke City news from StokeonTrentLive as one illustrious former Potter passes judgement on another as relegation battle heads into Easter showdown

Stoke City joint-chairman John Coates watches from the stands next to interim technical director Jon Walters.

Jon Walters has been tipped to excel as Stoke City technical director and even go on to bigger things in the world of football administration by a former bet365 Stadium team-mate.

Walters holds the post on an interim basis until the end of the season after being brought in to replace the sacked Ricky Martin last month.

There has been a distinct improvement in morale behind the scenes at the club since then, and even an upturn in Stoke’s fortunes on the pitch, although they remain dangerously close to the Championship relegation zone going into the key Easter programme.

But Peter Crouch,

The teammate of Walters from Stoke’s Premier League days, the striker, is unsurprised. He claims Walters was destined for this position from the beginning.

He said, “I think he always wanted to be involved in some capacity, upstairs if you like,” to Rob Adcock on BBC Radio Stoke’s 8 Games To Go program. He had always studied the game, so it seemed inevitable that he would eventually become engaged in it in some way.

He was always our [PFA] player representative and had a strong connection to the FA. He was rather skilled at it. He was a guy of authority.

When asked if he believed Walters could become a successful football administrator, either at Stoke or somewhere else, Crouch added: “Yes, I think he’ll do really well, and he’ll certainly be a big a help.”

Stoke’s next challenge to avoid relegation is at Hull City on Good Friday at 3pm, and then they play a crucial match against Huddersfield Town at the bet365 Stadium on East Monday at 3pm.

Stoke is trying to draw a sizable audience for the crucial match by providing supporters with reduced tickets.

According to the Potters’ website, friends and relatives of Stoke season ticket holders can attend the game on April 1 for a discounted fee of £10 (£5 for disabilities). However, season ticket holders must share a unique discount code that they were provided by the team.
