Sunderland had been expected to swiftly appoint a new manager after Mike Dodds’ departure, but over four weeks later, they are still without his replacement. Meanwhile, their key players continue to attract interest from Premier League clubs.

It seems inevitable that bids will soon come in for Jack Clarke, while Jobe Bellingham is the latest player to garner attention. Recent reports suggest that Crystal Palace, Brentford, and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Jobe, with talks already underway with Palace.

Sunderland are keen to retain the talented 18-year-old, considering him a “fantastic” asset, but they could entertain offers exceeding £20 million. However, if Jobe were to push for a move, Sunderland would face difficulties, especially as their chances of promotion next season diminish with each passing day without a managerial appointment.

Crystal Palace are now uncertain about Jobe Bellingham

Sunderland may have received a boost in their efforts to retain Jobe, with Crystal Palace appearing uncertain about his potential signing. According to GIVEMESPORT, the Crystal Palace board no longer consider Jobe as “vital” to their summer transfer plans. They are unsure whether he meets the caliber of player they are aiming to recruit for Oliver Glasner’s inaugural full campaign in charge.

Jobe Bellingham is playing for Sunderland in the Sky Bet Championship match against Millwall at the Stadium Of Light in Sunderland, on April 20, 2024.

Jobe’s £20m price tag will surely now put them off

Selhurst Park had seemed like a likely destination for Jobe, given Crystal Palace’s success in bringing Championship players to the Premier League. However, the board’s uncertainty over the midfielder is good news for Sunderland.

With Sunderland likely to demand over £20 million for Jobe, it’s surprising that the Eagles are hesitant to meet that price. Jobe is unlikely to be ready for regular Premier League football for a few years, making it questionable whether a top-flight club would spend eight figures on him at this stage.

Additionally, Palace’s uncertainty might deter Jobe, as he wouldn’t want to risk falling down the pecking order and ending up playing U21 football all season.
