Graeme Murty says his Rangers fate is for others to decide as club make future plans | Football News | Sky Sports

According to reports, Sunderland under-21 lead coach Graeme Murty has expressed interest in the vacant Hartlepool United managerial position.

Darren Sarll’s rocky time as Hartlepool United manager came to an end after just 15 games, following his appointment last summer to replace Kevin Phillips. Sarll’s brief tenure saw only four wins from 15 matches, leaving the club stuck in 16th place in the National League.

Hartlepool United’s FA Cup exit at the hands of National League North side Brackley on Tuesday pushed owner Raj Singh to make another managerial change. Murty, a former Rangers player, has been linked with the vacancy at Victoria Ground.

Born in Saltburn, Murty has managed Sunderland’s under-21 side since 2022, guiding them to the Premier League 2 play-off final against Tottenham last season. The former Southampton and Reading player also brings managerial experience from his time at Rangers.

Murty began his coaching career after retiring, joining Southampton’s academy in 2012 as an assistant youth development coach, primarily focusing on the under-12 to under-16 squads. In 2014, he moved to Norwich City, where he initially led the under-16 team before being promoted to manage the under-18s in 2015, ahead of his role with Rangers.
