If a move was in the works, the midfielder would appreciate the opportunity to return to his previous club.
Henderson progressed through the Black Cats’ academy system, emerging into the first-team squad in 2008 before joining Liverpol in 2011.
During his 12-year tenure at Anfield, the 34-year-old won the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and two EFL Cups.
However, he is currently playing in the Netherlands and has plummeted down the pecking order of the Dutch giants since his arrival in January 2024.

Jordan Henderson sets Sunderland return stance
Football Insider revealed earlier this month that Sunderland is negotiating to re-sign Henderson.
As he nears the conclusion of his career, Henderson is expected to be open to returning to his former club.
It remains to be seen whether a deal can be reached between the Championship club and Ajax, with the January transfer window providing the next opportunity to negotiate a potential move.
Speakman spoke out about Rigg’s future at the Stadium of Light, despite the teenager’s links to other clubs.
Ajax may let him go if he wants to go, given he was only signed in January of this year.
Henderson has made 14 appearances in the Eredivisie, only 11 of which were starts (all data from Fbref).
Sunderland are allegedly looking for a short-term deal with the option to extend until summer 2026.
Henderson left English football in the summer of 2023 following his departure from Liverpool, but he might now return to aid his former club compete for promotion back to the Premier League.
Sunderland’s promotion ambition
Régis Le Bris has received a lot of appreciation for the work he’s done since taking over the first-team squad in the summer.
The Frenchman has supervised six victories, one tie, and two losses in their first nine league games, putting them level with second-place Sheffield United.
Sunderland’s next game is away to Hull City on October 20.
Henderson deal would be very exciting for Sunderland
A short-term contract to bring Henderson back to Sunderland would be a very positive development for the club.
The midfielder is as seasoned as they come, having captained Liverpool’s best team of the modern era to numerous victories while also representing England 81 times.
His wages could be an issue, as the Wearside club will want to risk demolishing their current structure simply to bring in a 34-year-old for six to 18 months.
It’s true that Henderson isn’t the same player he once was, and he may not be the best contributor on the field anymore, but he can still add a lot of value to the club if used well by Le Bris.
