Fulham has clearly stated their position on a former primary striking target of Sunderland for the upcoming summer transfer window.
Stansfield emerged as a top target for Sunderland in the previous summer, and it appeared that a deal was imminent, but the 21-year-old chose to sign with Birmingham City instead. Despite Sunderland’s intention to revive their interest in the January transfer window, Stansfield remained with Birmingham City. Despite the team’s relegation to League One, Stansfield’s performance was exceptional, earning him the title of the club’s player of the season after scoring 13 goals across various competitions.
Fulham’s management expressed satisfaction with Stansfield’s progress, highlighting his successful transition from League One with Exeter City to becoming a pivotal figure in Birmingham City’s attack in the Championship, achieving their goals except for Birmingham’s collective aim, which was not aligned with theirs. They see this as the opportune moment for him to return and play a crucial role in their attacking line for the upcoming season.
Sunderland eventually secured a loan deal for Mason Burstow on the deadline day, and they will be actively seeking further reinforcements in the attacking department this summer as Burstow returns to Chelsea.
