Sunderland have launched an ambitious bid to sign a highly-rated Croatian striker.

Reported Sunderland target Roko Simic

Roko Simic, a 20-year-old forward regarded as one of Croatia’s top young talents, is reportedly on the verge of moving to Sunderland. Currently with RB Salzburg, known for producing star strikers like Erling Haaland and Patson Daka, Simic has been linked with a transfer after being notably absent from Salzburg’s squad in their recent Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv.

According to Croatian outlet Germanijak, Simic traveled to Sunderland on Wednesday to finalize the deal, a claim later confirmed by Salzburg’s Salzburger Nachrichten. The report suggests that if Simic passes his medical examination, the transfer will be completed soon.

Although Simic has not made a significant impact at Salzburg, he has enjoyed successful loan spells at Liefering and FC Zurich. His father, Dario Simic, was a notable defender for AC Milan and Inter, and Roko has long been considered a rising star. Nikica Jelavic, a former striker for Rangers, Everton, and Hull, has praised Simic, predicting that he will become a world-class player. Jelavic described Roko as one of Croatia’s greatest talents and expressed confidence in his potential to carve out a remarkable career.
