Sunderland ‘highly unlikely’ to pursue loan player reunion, report suggests
Sunderland landed the striker on loan last summer to improve their attacking department.
Burstow, 20, has since scored only one goal in 20 outings for the Championship side.
In this latest update regarding his situation, the Sunderland Echo report he probably won’t be returning to the Stadium of Light for a second term.
Sunderland not expected to explore loan reunion
Burstow has encountered difficulties in adapting to the environment at Sunderland, and while he possesses talent, it would likely be beneficial for him to seek a new setting in the upcoming season.
Once his temporary contract at the Stadium of Light comes to an end, he is expected to go back to Chelsea. At that point, his parent club will have to make a significant choice on his future.
They landed the forward back in 2022 and he remains under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2025.
Burstow signed for Charlton Athletic in 2020 after spells in non-league at Welling United and Maidstone United.
Prior to making his debut with the first-team, he consistently played for the Addicks at several juvenile levels.
The individual from London proceeded to participate in 23 matches for the League One team and contributed with six goals before becoming enticed by the prominent status of the Premier League and joining Chelsea.
Burstow had made three appearances for the first-team of the Blues before they let him to depart when Sunderland expressed interest.
The Black Cats are facing a significant summer as they search for a new permanent manager. Mike Dodds has assumed temporary responsibility following Michael Beale’s dismissal.
They suffered a 1-0 defeat in an away match against Watford throughout the weekend and will be playing against Sheffield Wednesday at their home ground on the final day, which falls on Saturday. The Owls require only one point to avoid relegation after their dominant 3-0 victory over West Brom in their previous match.
