The Black Cats have been criticised heavily over the summer so far, but it will now be hoped they can start to look ahead at the 2024/25 season.

Falk has reported Sunderland are in talks to bring Lorient duo David and Postec to the club as part of Le Bris’ backroom team.

Who are they?

They both worked alongside Le Bris at Lorient.

David, 42, was the assistant manager for the Ligue 1 side last season. He was appointed assistant to the first team following a spell assisting Le Bris for the B team beforehand.

Postec, 40, was Le Bris’ other assistant. He also came from the B team where he worked under Le Bris for the first time with the head coach clearly trusting both men to be his right hand team.

A sign of change

Sunderland have recently turned their noses up at the opportunity to allow new coaches to bring in people they are familiar with and in a trade like coaching that cohesion is crucial.

Sunderland appears ready to let their new head coach bring in his own staff, which is a positive step forward.

The future of current assistants Mike Dodds and Michael Proctor is still uncertain. While they are expected to remain with the club, Dodds might need to revert to his role as first-team coach if Le Bris brings in two of his own assistants.

It is still early days, but this development is promising. The appointment of Le Bris is a risk, but Sunderland’s board is familiar with taking risks. After the challenging season Sunderland just had, it’s crucial that Le Bris and his team start strong next season.
