Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris responds to a query about Jordan Henderson’s links.

Former Sunderland man Jordan Henderson

Regis Le Bris has attempted to calm speculation and Sunderland plotting a move for former star Jordan Henderson.

Henderson is the Academy of Light’s most successful alumni, having made his name at Sunderland before going to Liverpool.

He led the Reds to Premier League and Champions League victories, as well as several more titles, before departing for Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2023.

That did not go well for the former England international, so he promptly returned to Europe to join Ajax.

According to certain tabloid reports, he will be on the move again in January, with Sunderland leading the pursuit for his return to England.

However, Le Bris suggests that this may not be the case.

When asked if he had been involved in any discussions about Jordan Henderson behind the scenes at Sunderland, Le Bris replied: “No.”

“He’s clearly a strong and well-known player. The transfer window is currently closed, therefore we can discuss numerous players but do not have a choice at this time.

Henderson isn’t playing as much as he’d like at Ajax, but that’s more down to the Dutch club’s rotation system than him falling out of favour.

He has also recently discussed his future, insisting that for the time being, he is only concerned about his current club.

“When my contract here expires, I’ll be 36 years old,” Henderson explained. “Then I consider how I’m physically doing and what Ajax desires. I may end my career here. It might be doable.”

“I am thinking about it (his future), but I have not made a decision yet. I’m concentrating on the remaining years of my contract first.”
