Since his arrival to the Texas Longhorns football team, there has been no shortage of questions surrounding Arch Manning.
The true freshman quarterback gets peppered with propositions weekly about everything from his famous uncles Peyton Manning and Eli Manning to his QB1 battle with Texas’ starting quarterback Quinn Ewers. A clever soccer fan arrived to the set of ESPN College GameDay in Austin with a more unique question in mind – one that perfectly captured the quirks of Major League Soccer. “Unreal sign at College Gameday today,” MLS insider Tom Bogert wrote in a post on X after spotting the hilarious sign. “Which one of you legends did this?!?” The five-word question on the sign represented an inside joke that may not have clicked with the average college football fan, let alone Manning himself. “Who has Arch’s discovery rights?” said the fan’s sign, adorned with the crest of local MLS club Austin FC.
The “Discovery Process” is one way MLS clubs can acquire new players by claiming “rights” to them via a formal Discovery List, which is typically not made public. Unfortunately for this Austin FC fan, claiming the rights to Manning is a pipe dream, as playing in college during the most recent season disqualifies a player from being eligible.
On the flip side, a few of the Longhorn faithful showed interest in the services of Austin FC goalkeeper Brad Stuver. The well-timed crossover took hold of social media just hours before kickoff of MLS Decision Day, the final match day of the league’s regular season. Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF have a chance to break the single-season points record, while three spots in the MLS playoffs are up for grabs on the final day.
