Former Red Wings Defenseman Leaving World Champs to Come to NHL Could it be RED WINGS?

Mark Zidlicky used to find himself joining the Detroit Red Wings late in the NHL season as a defenseman.

Could Anthony Mantha, Andreas Athanasiou fetch Red Wings a defenseman?

There are now stories in Czechia that suggest Zidlicky would be joining the team late in the summer to start his NHL coaching career.

Zidlicky has been an assistant coach for the Czech national team in recent years. In the spring, he worked with Radim Rulik when Czechia won the IIHF World Championship in Prague on home ice.

In the summer, Zidlicky’s contract was about to expire.

Zidlicky stated at the time, “I don’t have a contract and I don’t know what it will look like.”

Since then, an offer has been made to him. He hasn’t chosen to sign a new contract with the hockey team in his home country as of yet.

“We extended Zidlicky an offer for a multi-year contract that includes the next Olympics,” Czech hockey chief Alois Hadamczik confirmed to the Czech website iSport.blesk. He first turned it down, claiming he would change his mind.

“He told me he is still undecided when I spoke with him directly.”

Six years ago, Hadamczik was the one who initially hired Zidlicky as a coach for the nation’s national team program. Before joining the senior national squad, he started out with the Czech global junior team.

Islanders Are Associated With Former Red Wings Player

Rumours that Zidlicky will be going are being fuelled by the fact that he is not signing his new contract with the Czechs. There are rumours that he intends to accept a position on an NHL staff.

His name is associated with the personnel of the New York Islanders, a team that the Red Wings’ bitter rival Patrick Roy currently coaches. The 47-year-old Zidlicky would play one more NHL season with the Islanders in 2015–16.

“People from Ireland? Indeed, Hadamczik verified, “He stated that he received an offer from them.”

“I am unsure of his decision-making process, but based on his statements, it doesn’t seem like he is unwilling to stay on the national team. I’ve been in an above-average relationship with Zidla for a long time. We’ll see. He has the final say.

Zidlicky was acquired by the Red Wings from New Jersey on March 2, 2015. The Devils received a conditional draft pick as part of the exchange.

Ultimately, he scored 3-8-11 in 21 games while playing for Detroit. In six playoff games with the Red Wings, Zidlicky also played.

He would join with the Islanders as an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2015.
