Fremantle Dockers star ruckman Sean Darcy has been ruled out of the early stages of the 2025 AFL season following a series of injury setbacks.
Darcy, one of Fremantle’s key players, underwent surgery to address persistent knee issues that have plagued him throughout the 2024 season.
The 26-year-old, who played only 12 games in 2024, had been battling fitness concerns for some time, contributing to Fremantle’s mid-season struggles.
Darcy’s absence will be a significant blow for Fremantle, as he is crucial to their midfield dominance. However, coach Justin Longmuir remains optimistic about Darcy’s recovery, stating that the procedure will allow the ruckman to regain full fitness and make a strong comeback later in 2025.
Longmuir also highlighted the club’s depth, noting backup options like Liam Reidy, who could step up in Darcy’s absence.
While Fremantle’s injury woes in 2024 contributed to their disappointing finish outside the top eight, the club is hopeful that Darcy’s long-term recovery will bolster their chances in 2025.
Darcy’s contract runs until 2030, giving the Dockers confidence in his future contributions
