Kalen DeBoer gives injury update for Alabama football’s Cole Adams
Alabama football wide receiver Cole Adams left the Crimson Tide’s 42-16 win over South Florida early in the fourth quarter. Adams appeared to injure his right arm significantly while going to the ground, and did not return to action.
After the game, Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer had nothing definitive to report about the nature of Adams’ injury.
“He just had an arm injury,” DeBoer said. “I would say we’ll have to see exactly where that’s at. Just the extent of that. I didn’t necessarily see and I didn’t realize it was his arm until he got up, I thought it was something lower leg. But we’ll see where he’s at throughout the week.”
Adams had taken over the Crimson Tide’s punt returner, beginning with the season-opener against Western Kentucky. He was also earning reps at wide receiver.
The redshirt freshman finished Saturday’s game with one catch for five yards. The Crimson Tide struggled much of the way against USF, before pulling away late.
Alabama is scheduled to face Wisconsin next week at Camp Randall. If Adams is unable to go, the biggest question will be who would take over as punt returner for the Crimson Tide.
Jaylen Mbakwe caught one punt on Saturday for Alabama, making a play in the process. The freshman defensive back returned the kick 28 yards, setting the Tide up for success in a crucial moment late in the game.
Alabama and Wisconsin are scheduled to face off next Saturday in Madison. The game is scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m. CT and will be aired on FOX.
