- UEFA Conference League winning manager David Moyes left West Ham in May.
- Why Saints should bring Moyes to replace Russell Martin at Southampton.
Although Southampton haven’t enjoyed a great return to the Premier League this season, the Saints are gradually showing significant progress made under manager Russell Martin. The recent 3-2 comeback defeat against Leicester City was another encouraging step in the right direction, however, the first league win has still eluded Southampton. Further, this is again expected to be the case in the upcoming away fixture against Manchester City.
Thus, Southampton’s current situation poses the question that should the Saints start transfer talks with other brilliant managers regarding a possible January transfer move in-case Martin couldn’t bring good results in the next five matches. This is due to the fact that other relegation battling clubs may also be actively looking to sign a new manager and can sign one of Southampton’s preferred managerial targets.
Why Saints should bring European trophy-winning manager to replace Russell Martin
If the Southampton board do start to make their head coach shortlist, the Saints must consider a move for a European trophy-winning manager. The head coach is former West Ham manager David Moyes, who guided the Hammers to the 2022/23 UEFA Conference League title. Moyes stayed at West Ham for around five seasons and led them to successfully qualify for playing European football in three consecutive seasons.
Among those three European football campaigns, Moyes brought an end to West Ham’s 43-year trophy-wait as well, establishing himself as one of the greatest West Ham managers of all time. Moreover, Moyes has previously managed Everton to consistently finish inside the top ten and become one of the most improved Premier League teams during his eleven years at Everton.
Although Moyes wasn’t much successful at Manchester United, the former West Ham manager is known for his more result-oriented and defensive approach, which is currently required at the St. Mary’s Stadium. Further, Moyes gave enough playing time to several young players such as Jarrod Bowen and Declan Rice, who are currently one of the elite Premier League stars.
Thus, the former West Ham manager can help promising talents such as Tyler Dibling, Matheus Fernandes and Cameron Archer to quickly becoming one of the best Premier League players in their position, while also guiding Southampton to consistently avoid relegation as well. Hence, Southampton should consider bringing David Moyes at the St. Mary’s Stadium if their Premier League struggles continue in the upcoming weeks.
