Wrexham continue their League One seeing with a meeting against Bolton Wanderers.
Phil Parkinson is set to return to The Toughsheet Community Stadium in the opposition dugout on Sunday.
The now Wrexham boss enjoyed a prolific stint at the club, which included winning them promotion to the Championship.
The 56-year-old will be hoping to repeat at similar feet in the 2024/25 season with the Red Dragons.
Wrexham faced Wycombe Wanderers on the opening day of the League One season and had a superb start to life in England’s third division.
The Welsh outfit went 1-0 up at the Racecourse Ground after just nine minutes before Jack Marriott scored a goal-of-the-season contender to double the home outfit’s advantage.
Wycombe scored two late goals to try and mount a comeback but Steven Fletcher came off the bench to add a third for Rob McElhenney’s and Ryan Reynolds’ side.
A much tougher outing awaits Wrexham on Sunday, August 18th, however.
Jack Marriott warning to Wrexham ahead of Bolton Wanderers
Wycombe ended the previous season sat 10th in League One and have floated around midtable for several years.
However, Bolton were one of the best sides in the division last term, finishing third and just five points behind second-place Derby County.
If Wrexham are to continue their climb up the football league ladder they will have to earn positive results against sides like Bolton.
But, as per Leader Live, Marriott has warned that League One is ‘very difficult’ and Wrexham cannot get carried away.
He said: “We wanted to get that first win, it was so important on the opening day.
“We got the three points and move onto the next game. It is a long season and this division is very difficult.
“There are going to be a lot of games like that one against Wycombe but hopefully we can be on the winning end.
“We can’t get carried away. We are pleased we got the points, it might be an old cliche but we have to take it game by game.”
Can Wrexham win promotion this season
Wrexham fans have become accustomed to dominating every division they play in.
Parkison has guided the Welsh outfit to back-to-back promotions and a third would be a serious achievement.
And after picking up a win on the opening day, Wrexham fans are likely expecting their side to once again finish in the top-three this term.
However, while the Red Dragons have made some smart signings this summer, the step up to League One is much bigger.
Sides like Birmingham City have spent huge money following their relegation from the Championship and will likely finish higher than Wrexham in 2024/25.
Parkinson has made seven signings already this summer and more additions may arrive. But it remains to be seen if his squad is good enough to mount a proper promotion push.
Given where Bolton finished the previous campaign, though, Sunday’s game should be a good indicator of how Wrexham will fare this term.
