FAREWELL:£30 million player is now poised to permanently depart from Nottingham Forest

Premier League survival guarantees Nottingham Forest top-flight revenue for at least another season at the City Ground. However, Nuno Espirito Santo will still need to offload some players this month to prevent further Financial Fair Play (FFP) breaches before the June 30 deadline.

Players like Morgan Gibbs-White and Murillo have been linked with potential moves, with Forest valuing them above the £47.5 million they received for Brennan Johnson last summer. However, one player will definitely depart this month, as his loan club is set to exercise the option to make his stay permanent.

Forest set to lose £30m player this summer

Since Nottingham Forest’s return to the Premier League, there has been significant player turnover, with Evangelos Marinakis providing substantial support to his managers. One of the players who joined after their promotion may now be permanently leaving the club.

Last summer, Forest sold Johnson to Spurs, which provided a significant financial boost. Orel Mangala, who was loaned to Lyon for half a season, now faces an uncertain future at Forest.

According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Mangala will not return to Forest as Lyon will make his loan deal permanent this summer. Mangala’s contract with Lyon will extend until 2027, but the French side might look to sell him for a profit this summer.

The Athletic previously reported that the permanent move could bring Forest up to £30 million this summer.

Forest turning a healthy profit on Orel Mangala this summer

Mangala joined Nottingham Forest from Stuttgart in 2022 for £10.5 million and has since made 53 appearances for the club. This season alone, the Belgian midfielder has featured in 22 matches across the Premier League and FA Cup.

Set to participate in this summer’s Euros with Belgium, Mangala could potentially secure an even more lucrative transfer in the coming months. Given Forest’s current Financial Fair Play (FFP) constraints, a £20 million profit from Mangala’s sale would be highly beneficial.

However, it would be frustrating if Lyon, should they acquire him, manage to turn a profit on the Belgian midfielder later this summer.
