Leo Ostigard, a player from Norway, signed a loan agreement with Coventry City from Premier League team Brighton in August 2020. He was a member of the Sky Blues for the whole 2020–21 Championship campaign.
In an effort to stay in the second division, Mark Robins’ squad recruited Ostigard after winning League One in 2020.
The Norwegian was excellent for the Sky Blues, appearing in 39 games and making 35 starts. This helped Robins’ squad finish in 16th place, 12 points above the relegation zone.

The Sky Blues defense, led by the dependable central defender, was largely responsible for the team’s comfortable escape from relegation.
According to FotMob, Ostigard won an incredible 61.3% of duels and 66.4% of aerial duels he faced throughout the 2020–21 season. Throughout the season, he also completed 66.7% of his tackles.

The player also contributed two assists and two goals to the Sky Blues’ surprisingly straightforward lower mid-table finish, which allowed Robins’ squad to comfortably stave off relegation.
The Coventry fans saw a very gifted defender, so they will not be surprised when they hear that the star went on to win the Serie A title in 2023 with Napoli—a team that advanced to the Champions League quarterfinals the year before.
The incredible trajectory of Ostigard’s career may surprise Stoke City supporters more, though, considering that his loan at the Potters terminated in 2021–2022 when he lost favor in Staffordshire, returning to his former Brighton team.
After making his comeback to the Amex Stadium in January 2022, Ostigard would spend the remainder of the 2021–2022 campaign on loan at Serie A outfit Genoa.
Genoa was demoted to Serie B at the end of the 2021–2022 season, but the Norwegian defender did well enough to land a permanent move from the Seagulls to Napoli in time for the 2022–2023 season.

The former Sky Blues player participated in seven Serie A games, three Champions League games, and one Coppa Italia game as Napoli won their first Scudetto since 1990 in 2022.
By scoring in the Champions League as well, the defender showed that he could lead his team to success at the top level of European club football.
Despite playing in less Serie A games, Ostigard showed his defensive prowess in 2022–2023 by winning 80.9% of duels and 81.1% of aerial duels (FotMob).
The Norway international has made more than twice as many Serie A appearances in 2023–24 as he did in the previous campaign, demonstrating how much he is enjoying his stay in Naples.
The Coventry native’s triumph will come as no surprise to Sky Blues fans. Their former loan star, who completed both of Norway’s 90-minute games in two international friendlies back in March, will be happy to be playing regularly for one of the top teams in European football.
Even if Napoli is not vying for the title this year, Sky Blues fans will be happy to see their player earn more hardware with the Italian squad and will not be shocked by his trophy-winning exploits from the previous season.
