Nottingham Forest’s recent financial troubles could work in Liverpool’s favor as they eye one of Forest’s key players.
Following their narrow escape from relegation, Forest must now address their financial issues and balance their books by June 30 to avoid breaching spending limits and risking a points deduction next season, according to Sam Cunningham of iPaper. The summer transfer window opens on June 14, but Forest need to raise funds through player sales before the end of the month.
Having already faced a four-point deduction last season for similar reasons, Forest will be eager to avoid repeating that mistake. June 30 has become an important date for clubs due to ‘profitability and sustainability rules.’ One player who could be a lucrative sale for Forest is center-back Murillo, who has drawn significant interest with his performances.
Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo praised Murillo in an interview with ESPN Brasil, noting his quality and speed, while also mentioning areas for improvement. At 21, the Brazilian defender had an impressive first season in England, showcasing his technical skills and defensive capabilities.
Liverpool had previously shown interest in Murillo before his move to Forest and have continued to monitor his progress. While his statistics may not be as remarkable as some other targets, his potential and strong defensive qualities make him an attractive prospect. He excels in clearances and rarely gets dribbled past, making him a solid option for the left side of defense.
While Forest also has players like Callum Hudson-Odoi and Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo is the only one linked with a move to Anfield. Given Forest’s need to sell, Liverpool might view him as a valuable addition and a risk worth taking.
