Derek Ferguson anticipates Ianis Hagi leaving the team because he does not see him as a member of the Rangers in the future.
Before coming on loan to Alaves this season, the Romanian attacker missed a whole year of action for the Light Blues due to a major knee injury. Since then, he has hardly played for the team.
Hagi junior, who spoke well of his time with the Gers, stated last week that he hopes to stay in La Liga long term since it suits his game, just after his father had rejected claims he wanted to go.
Ferguson believes that even though the 25-year-old still has a few years left on his Rangers contract, a transfer away is now most likely, even if he can not criticize the player’s effort during his time in Glasgow.
“I know that he is still contracted, he is a talented boy, but he just needs to get himself fit and play games,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.
“In the back of my mind, I do not think he will play for the Rangers in the future. I watch him working somewhere else.
“I never would have scolded a player for giving it their best when he was at Rangers. Even though they might not always perform to the greatest of their abilities or be good enough, I do not mind if you give it your all as long as you give it your all.
“And I tip my hat to Hagi because that is what he did.”
Ianis Hagi is leaving the Rangers with the approval of the Ibrox hero.
Since Hagi arrived in Spain and Michael Beale was replaced by Philippe Clement, a lot has changed.
Ferguson believes it is the wisest course of action overall, even though it seems the player himself has plans to leave permanently. This may have given rise to a fresh start.
Maybe if he had not sustained the severe injury at the beginning of 2022, his career would have continued at Ibrox, but it does not seem like that is happening any time soon.
