The San Antonio Spurs had a poor record in terms of wins and losses during the 2023–24 NBA season. They presently have the third-worst record in the league (19-59), which puts them in last place in the Western Conference.

San Antonio must be enthusiastic about what might come in that future. Wembanyama has the appearance of an NBA All-Star, Defensive Player of the Year, MVP, and All-NBA player in the future. It is time to start improving the roster that surrounds him.

That might put the Spurs in the running for one of the next guards on the All-Star team who decides to let go and seeks a new experience. According to Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report, Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers should consider San Antonio as a dark horse.
“Could the San Antonio Spurs, who have already been connected to Atlanta Hawks player Trae Young, choose to give the Cavaliers all of their future draft selections?” Pincus wrote the letter.
The foundation of whatever trade package the Spurs put together will be the draft capital they have accumulated in recent offseasons. They boast several first-round selections in 2024, 2025, 2027, and 2030 in addition to a few of protected picks and swaps that will eventually be sent.
San Antonio’s roster is full of young players that they may add to a deal to bolster the offer. The Spurs will be active this summer and are among the teams in the best position to pull off a blockbuster trade.
With Wembanyama still on his rookie deal, this is the perfect opportunity to act. Because they can invest in other areas of the team while he is still getting paid a pittance for the value he brings on the court, that gives the Spurs tremendous value.
