Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson on Bolton Wanderers reunion

Phil Parkinson relishing big atmosphere ahead of Bolton reunion - Yahoo Sport

After a strong start to League One, Phil Parkinson thinks Wrexham is “full of confidence” going into their match against Wanderers.

Max Cleworth, Jack Marriott, and Steve Fletcher scored goals in the Red Dragons’ 3-2 victory over Wycombe on opening day as they look to build on their two consecutive National League promotions.

Parkinson says his players are enjoying the occasion and that he is aware of the mood that a large crowd creates at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

“We have to build on the fantastic win we had over the weekend,” he said on the club channels. We’ll evaluate and select the team we think is best for that particular match.

“Over the next few days, I will give Bolton a close inspection, and we will go there with great confidence.

What a wonderful vibe we’re going to have. There will be a great mood in the stadium when that kind of crowd arrives, and I’m sure the boys are enjoying it.

In the Carabao Cup midweek, Wrexham also played rather well against Sheffield United, losing 4-2 in spite of goals from Will Boyle and Sebastian Revan.

Parkinson continued, “It was a tough game.” Parkinson made ten changes for the contest. We assembled the team with players that needed to play since we made a lot of changes, so there would always be a sense of minor disarray.

“We were able to get a lot of people through a game who really needed that game, so that was incredibly crucial.

“Although we scored first, their opening goal was inexcusable. It’s unbelievable that the referee hasn’t witnessed the block.”

He went on: “If we had kept the lead until half-time it could have been a different night for us,” he stated. “However, goals in the second half drastically altered the course of the games.

“We still had opportunities, but there are times when we can do better. We never enjoy losing in games, but we will learn from it and look for the good aspects of it. Overall, it’s a fantastic workout for us.

“We got a lot of players who are a bit behind in terms of minutes some valuable game-time.”
